My career began in universities, where I was teaching and researching in the arts and humanities. Here I saw the value of clear writing from both perspectives–when it was present and when it wasn't! I was fortunate enough to have a mentor who helped me learn to write well.
But the academic path was ultimately not for me. I moved away from academia to establish Plain Language Australia. 
For more than 20 years now, I have enjoyed working with clients in businesses small and large to improve the quality of their written communication.

I had a long career in sales and marketing for Canon Australia, and before that for some very interesting organisations, including the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
These days I am the head of support at Plain Language Australia. If it needs to be created, I create it; and if it's broken, I fix it.
In other words, I do anything and everything in the background to keep Plain Language Australia moving along smoothly.
